Courtroom Experience in Both Criminal Defense and Domestic Relations

Before joining the Law Office of Andrew Bryant, Tanner Elias served as a Colorado State Public Defender, where he spent his days in the courtroom representing individuals facing criminal charges. His experience provided him with extensive, hands-on knowledge of Colorado’s criminal justice system and strengthened his commitment to protecting the Constitutional rights of those facing the power of the government.

As a public defender, Tanner represented clients facing a wide range of criminal charges, gaining valuable experience analyzing evidence, challenging the government’s case, negotiating with prosecutors, and advocating for his clients in the courtroom. He understands that a criminal accusation can affect far more than a person’s freedom—it can impact their career, reputation, family, and future.

Biography Overview

Tanner’s criminal defense background is also invaluable in his domestic relations practice. Family law and criminal law frequently intersect, particularly in cases involving allegations of domestic violence, protection orders, parenting disputes, and other highly contested matters. Tanner is able to draw upon his criminal courtroom experience when evaluating these issues and developing a strategy for his domestic relations clients.

That experience is particularly valuable when a client is simultaneously facing a domestic relations case and a related criminal matter. Rather than viewing the two cases in isolation, Tanner understands how developments in one proceeding can affect the other. His firsthand courtroom experience in both criminal defense and domestic relations allows him to identify potential issues early and develop a coordinated approach designed to protect his client’s interests across both cases.

Tanner earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma and his law degree from Washburn University School of Law. He is a firm believer in protecting his clients’ rights, providing straightforward guidance, and advocating aggressively when the circumstances require it.

Outside of the courtroom, Tanner enjoys hiking, practicing jiu-jitsu, and playing just about any musical instrument he can get his hands on.
